Carolyn Echols

Head Golf Professional/GM

Carolyn is an LPGA Class A Member and has been teaching professionally for 17 years. Carolyn has been with The Eagle Zone since April 2010. Prior positions include 11 years as Head Professional at The Cliffs at Glassy in Landrum, South Carolina and 5 years as Assistant Professional and Full Time Instructor at San Ramon Royal Vista in San Ramon, California. Carolyn believes that if the student has the right practice tools and the desire to learn anyone can play golf.

Chad Phillips

Director of Instruction

Chad is dedicated teacher who believes anyone can improve if they can get motivated and receive good coaching. Chad helps his students generate momentum towards reaching their goals while providing enjoyable challenges that help them become their very best.

Chad is an apprentice with the PGA of America, and a Hank Haney Pro Associate Instructor. He is currently the Director of Instruction for the Eagle Zone Golf Academy, the premier golf improvement center in Upstate. He has taught the game since 1993 and has worked with players of all types. His clients have included juniors, beginners, top amateurs, and professionals.

A professionally competitive player, Chad possesses extensive knowledge in the playing the game. He uses his experience to help develop his students into complete players. Chad focuses on all aspects of short game, long game, strategy, and mental toughness. He places a strong emphasis putting, chipping, pitching, and sand play with the belief that all great players have great short games. Chad incorporates digital video analysis into his lessons to ensure proper diagnosis and to encourage effective improvement to the fundamentals of the swing. The ultimate goal is to teach his students how to coach themselves through a practice session and a round of golf.

Jamie Michala

Prior to joining the Eagle Zone, Jamie Michala was the Head Golf Professional at The Thornblade Club for seven years. Before that, she worked under Dick Harmon at River Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas for six years. A graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Jamie competed for the SMU women's golf team and contributed to two top five NCAA team finishes for SMU and earned a 7th place individual finish in the 1986 NCAA Championship. She was the New York State Women's Amateur Champion in 1986 and competed in the 1983 Women's US Open.

Sandy Halkett


Sandy has been teaching golf for 12 years and is a Class “A” Member of the LPGA TCP and an apprentice of the PGA program. She formerly worked as the Head Golf Professional at the Cliffs of Glassy and Millstone Golf Village. Sandy is also the golf coach for the Special Olympics and is a certified instructor for Adaptive Golf, a teaching program designed for physically challenged individuals.
